Our Guide to the Best Italian and Mediterranean Restaurants in Scarborough
Gianni's has been a Scarborough favourite since the mid‑90s, and for good reason. Set across two charming Victorian townhouses, it combines authentic Italian cooking with a warm, family‑run atmosphere. We’ve eaten here many times and it’s always been a great experience — generous portions, friendly service, and consistently delicious food. Whether it’s a classic pasta, a wood‑fired pizza, or their homemade tiramisu, Gianni’s delivers the kind of hearty, comforting Italian dining that keeps locals and visitors coming back year after year..
Top tip... very popular, booking essential
One of Scarborough’s newer Italians, but it already feels like a hidden gem. Very cosy and welcoming, it’s the sort of place where you can see the chef cooking up authentic dishes right in front of you. We love it there — it feels like you’re dining in the front room of an Italian house, with hearty portions, homely atmosphere, and genuine warmth from the team. It’s relaxed, intimate, and consistently delivers the kind of food that makes you want to return again and again.
Top tip... book a later table so nobody coming in after you
A Scarborough institution since 1986, Florios is the kind of place every local has celebrated something — birthdays, anniversaries, reunions, or just a Friday night with the family. It’s big, bustling, and unapologetically Italian in all the best ways: expect clinking glasses, bursts of “Happy Birthday,” and the comforting aroma of garlic and tomato drifting from the open kitchen.
The menu is packed with classics — hearty pasta dishes, stone-baked pizzas, creamy sauces, and generous portions that never disappoint. It’s the kind of place where kids are welcome, laughter is loud, and the food always hits the spot.
We go regularly, and it never fails to deliver that warm, familiar feeling. If you’re after a proper family Italian with soul, Florios is the one.
Top tip... Happy Hour is until 7PM, £9.95 for a pasta or pizza - garlic bread with tomato is amazing
Askim’s is a real gem — warm, welcoming, and full of that relaxed Mediterranean charm. The team are super attentive and genuinely friendly, creating an atmosphere that feels more like being invited into someone’s home than eating out. The food is fantastic too, with the mixed kebab grill being a real standout: beautifully cooked, full of flavour, and always generous. The starters are incredible — loads of choice, plenty of vegetarian dishes, and lots of gluten‑free options as well, so everyone’s looked after. It’s the kind of place where you settle in, feel cared for, and enjoy every plate that arrives. A lovely spot with real heart
Top tip... fantastic vegetarian and gluten free options available
