 North-west is The North York Moors National Park and Dalby Forest. Pickering is the southern end of the North Yorkshire Preserved Railway Line with its route through an area of stunning natural beauty including Grosmont (Aidensfield) where the TV series Heartbeat is filmed. West is York - home of the Shambles, the famous Jorvick centre, wonderful museums including The National Railway Museum, York Minster.

 

Many medieval castles and Stately homes including Castle Howard, Sledmere House, Nunnington Hall, Rievaulx Abbey, Helmsley Castle, Pickering Castle, Byland Abbey, Kirkham Priory, Burton Agnes Hall and many more are in all directions.

South is Hull, now famous for The Deep Acquarium. Closer is Flamborough Head with its wonderful wildlife nature reserves.

If you want shopping there are outlet centres at Hornsea and MaCarther Glen near York.

For walkers and nature lovers there are countless well trodden paths, books of coast walks are available at the hotel.
